TEA BASICS CERTIFICATION TRAINING Tea Geek is launching a skills and knowledge based certification series, and by attending this training, you will learn everything you need for the basic level. It includes a little history and culture. You'll learn different brewing methods and how to identify a handful of famous teas by sight, flavor, and taste. When you complete the evaluation, you'll receive a certificate detailing your areas of knowledge and skill.
The course takes place over 6 sessions:
- Session 1 (Jan): Introduction, History, and the Tea Plant
* Session 2 (Feb): Green Teas
- Session 3 (Mar): Black Teas
- Session 4 (Apr): Wulong Teas
- Session 5 (May): White, Yellow, and Puer Teas
- Session 6 (Jun): Brewing Skills
Evaluation can be held immediately after the course in June, or scheduled at a later time. Lessons are stand-alone and can be taken individually at $40 each. Sign up for the whole series for only $192 (a 20% discount)and the evaluation fee of $50 is waived. You save $98 over taking individual classes plus the evaluation! Of course, Tea Geek members can use their personal discount code to get an additional discount on individual classes or the series.
Classes are held at the Hawthorne Tea Room in Tacoma, WA.
Death By Darjeeling Inspired by the first book in Laura Childs' teahouse mysteries, we start with a look at Darejeeling--not only one of the world's most famous teas, but it's also a beautiful little town nestled in the Himalayas in northern India. Come learn about the place, its history, see a presentation of photographs from the region, and taste a range of world-class Darjeeling teas! $20, includes light luncheon. Tea Basics Certification Training: Green Teas This class is the second in the Tea Geek certification training series. Learn the definition of green tea, taste some of the more famous ones, and learn how and where they are made. A little bit of health information and quality evaluation techniques will be included. See January classes for full description of the series.

Gunpowder Green Inspired by the Laura Childs book, "Gunpowder Green," this month's class is all about green tea! What makes a green tea different from other types of tea? What makes different green teas taste and look different? What's the newest health secret revealed by the latest research? Note: Both the Tea Basics Certification and the Gunpowder Green classes cover green tea. While a few facts will overlap, the two classes are being planned to be as different as possible to serve those who would like to take both!

Shades of Earl Grey Taking its inspiration from Laura Childs' third Teahouse Mystery, Shades of Earl Grey, we will be delving into the world of flavored teas--specifically the origins and many, many variations on the oldest and most popular flavored teas in the Western world, Earl Grey.
